I know I must seem like a cheapskate...

...because I keep complaining about how expensive things are. Just the other day I remarked to the guy behind the counter at 7-11 how M&Ms have doubled in price in my lifetime*. He wasn't impressed.

Nevertheless, I was just shredding some old receipts and get this:

  • Milk: $1.79 per gallon
  • Eggs: $0.55 per dozen
  • Gasoline: $1.059 per gallon

And strangely enough? The potato chips were more expensive ($3.39) than they are today!

In the small stack of receipts I looked through I managed to find at least one item I still have: Spartan-brand iodized salt. $0.45.

* OK, the earliest M&M price I can remember is $0.45, and they are $0.85 now. But I imagine it will be only a matter of months before they reach $0.90, so close enough!
