I was just mugged! I'm really pissed.. Four and a half years of feeling really safe in this neighborhood and now this!
I was walking back from Cindy's, and just crossing the alley next to my building when a car was crossing Ainslie along the alleys. They dimmed the lights as I walked by, and that should have been my first clue, but my mind was elsewhere. As I kept walking I heard something from behind me, like someone trying to speak to me. Part of me knew better but I turned to look back anyway, and a guy was getting out of the car. I knew now that something was wrong but I either froze or knew that it was a bad idea to try to run now.
He approached me with a stocking hat over his right hand (purportedly holding a gun?), and spoke quietly. He asked for my wallet while I stared at him, dumbfounded. Then he seemed to remember that he wasn't supposed to let me look at him and he had to remind me a few times to look away. I gave him my wallet, and, perhaps stupidly, asked if I could keep the cards and give him the cash. He handed the wallet back to me and motioned for me to take the cash out, then asked, "Is that all you have?" He asked me for my phone, and apparently decided that it wasn't worth stealing.
So I'm out maybe $45 cash, no problem at all, but I'm still pissed. I called the cops and they're supposed to stop by soon. Actually I think I just saw them drive by with their lights flashing. Or maybe it was just lightning.
After I was apparently free to go I decided to be bold and scoop up my grocery bag. I had left my Nestle Toll House cookie dough at Cindy's the night before by accident, and I wasn't going to be left cookieless again!Posted at May 18, 2004 01:05 AM, Categories: Beardcore
